home1 Every year, millions of children across the globe suffer due to lack of basic necessities. Caught in the web of poverty they survive in the most pitiable of conditions. Education is the only way out of a life of such desolation.

At WNS we had conducted a Global Poll Survey with our employees giving them various options, 72% employees chose “Education” as a cause for the Foundation to support.

WNS Cares Foundation (WCF) is registered as a Company under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956 and was set up in January 2011. WCF receives guidance from Mr. Keshav R. Murugesh, Chief Executive Officer, WNS Group; Mr. Sanjay Puria, Chief Financial Officer, WNS Group and Mr. R. Swaminathan, Chief People Officer, WNS Group in their capacity as WCF Board members. Ms. Shamini Murugesh, Chief Mentor of WCF, has wide experience in the area of social and community development, and has helped establish the WCF sustainability program.

WNS Cares Foundation aims to create a better and sustainable future for underprivileged children and youth. With a mission to ‘EDUCATE, EMPOWER, ENRICH’, the Foundation is looking at making a difference around the world. We believe, in providing support to potential beneficiaries in communities around our offices, in order to encourage ‘inclusive growth.’ By imparting education in a holistic form and not just academic knowledge and equipping them with the real life skills required to face the world.

The geographical reach of WCF chapters are spread across fifteen cities internationally and can be found in countries like Costa Rica, India, North America, Philippines, Romania, Poland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and UK.

Education is the basis of a civilized structured society. It reduces social and economic disparity, allowing progress to be equally shared. Educated people are in a better position to contribute more positively to society and even towards the planet, as they understand the implications of their choices and actions. The pro’s of education are limitless and both developed and developing countries understand the importance of the same. The 72% of respondents giving importance to “Education” as an area of focus also shows how much importance the larger community adds to this issue.

WCF’s first efforts towards realizing this educational model have been within economically disadvantaged populations, as it is here that the dated education system hits the children the most. The children are coerced into a disempowering thoughtless acceptance of the content of the syllabus and textbooks. The negative effects of such a top-down educational system are further compounded by lack of parental guidance and absence of an environment that encourages and supports questioning or critical thinking habits

WNS Cares Foundation has tailor made projects and programs for each of its international locations. While the common thread that runs through all, is to give every child an equal opportunity in this world. While many do attend school, the school itself is usually strapped for funds with little or no infrastructure. As a result of which, the standard of education is substandard.

The WNS Cares Foundation aims at bridging the gap between school, parents and children through its varied projects and programs, across the globe. Most of the underprivileged children are first generation school goers. This means that the parents are not in a position to give any support from home as they themselves under pressure for their daily work to ensure provision of next meal to their family. This is where the WCF steps in.

others WCF identifies needy schools in the vicinity of its office locations. After conducting a need assessment of the school WCF sets up Libraries or Computer Centers or both in these schools. WCF also invests in beautification of the Computer Labs to make the environment more friendly, warm, welcoming and conducive to children’s learning.
The focus of CSR at WCF would also be on engaging the employees in every project that we support. The aim is to create awareness on critical issues to sensitize staff and provide opportunities for significant participation in response to community needs. We will offer exposure to social issues on the ground, where social inequities exists, in order to inspire individuals to make the choice – to make a difference.

Once suitably equipped with academic qualifications, computer literate, confident of their talents, possessing real life skills and a high self esteem, the children/youth being supported by the Foundation are an asset and not a burden to society. WNS Cares Foundation believes in equipping underprivileged children/youth to reach their full potential in order to create a better future for themselves. We attempt to create a more equitable society for generations to come.

It is our endeavor to ensure that all our efforts are directed at confidence building and providing life skills learning to the children on our program so that they can blossom into educated, empowered, responsible & confident adults.
